The WIC Program

WIC stands for Women, Infants, and Children supplemental food program. WIC is a nutrition education program. The WIC program is a federally funded program which provides supplemental foods which promote good health for pregnant, breastfeeding & postpartum women, infants & children up to age five (5):

1. Pregnant women;
2. Post partum mothers (up to six months);
3. Breastfeeding mothers (up to one year);
4. Infants;
5. Children (up to age five).

WIC services are FREE!

WIC strives to improve the health of participants by providing individual health and nutrition assessments. Participants receive food instruments to redeem at local stores for foods that are high in vitamins and minerals. Participants must provide proof of residency in Calhoun County, are at nutritional risk, and meet our liberal income guidelines. (See income guidelines listed below.)

Annual FCS income guidelines for the WIC program were obtained by multiplying the annual federal poverty guidelines and increment for each additional family member by 1.85 and rounding the results as necessary. Monthly (weekly) income guidelines for the WIC program were obtained by multiplying the federal guidelines/increment by 1.85, dividing by 12 (52), and rounding the results upward as necessary.

The above guidelines reflect 185% of poverty
and meet the requirements of the 7CFR, part 246 (AMDT.3).
